March 3rd baseball forecast

The Hustle Award this week goes to all our Gympie based players who were first to the baseball fields despite the move to an earlier start time in effort to beat some of the summer heat. A big thank-you also to Flirty Gertie for their continued support. Their snow cones, coffee, and delicious bacon & egg rolls are a game day highlight for both players and parents.

T-Ball

The Sharks and Stingrays were ready to play a fun and even game. The dads even gave it a good go and showed some great skills on the field. During the game, there were some players distracted when the smell of bacon drifted through the breeze! A good game played by all. A big “Happy Birthday” shout-out to Cruz. Don’t forget to save a slice of cake for Coach.

Senior League

The largest Seniors turnout to date equated to deep pitching rosters for both teams. This was fortunate given the introduction of the “2-innings/2-walks” pitching limit that saw a plethora of pitchers take to the mound. Massive thanks to Beau for stepping up and taking on the Umpire roll this week and doing a superb job of it. Very much appreciated by all of the Senior players.

“Great to see such a big turnout today with everyone in their team colours too!!!” – Mitchell L

The Marlins put the pressure on with some early runs and held the Sharks at bay for the first two innings.  Young and old players alike delivered inspiring performances during the course of the ball game. None more so than Sharks player-coach Geoff Wade whose deep “looks like a home run” hit to center field was a critical turning point in the game. The actual distance to home plate proved too great a journey for Geoff though, who had to pull up short at third. But that was far enough to motivate the Sharks lineup to an impressive comeback.

With the game tied at 11-11 and the bases loaded at the bottom of the last inning, the pressure proved too much for reluctant Marlins closer, Bret “Are you sure no-one else wants to pitch?” B. A line-drive single to shortstop was all that was needed to clinch the win for the Sharks. As we head in to the tail end of the Sunshine Coast Baseball 2018 Summer Season, the Sharks now lead the Senior Series 4 games to 3.
